Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker CCC3000 18-Volt Cordless Electric Lawncare Center

Customer Review: More powerful than I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

First I used the hedge trimmer on a massively overgrown rosemary shrub. If you don't know, rosemary is very sinewy when overgrown and hard to cut. The hedge trimmer went through it like butter - 8 minutes and the sides (all the way around and down to the ground) and top were cut back nicely. Very impressive.

Next the string trimmer - not quite as powerful but still more than I expected. I'm a big guy (6'6") and really appreciated the adjustable length feature. Changing from trimmer to edger is done in seconds so it's easy to change back and forth while you are working. I use it mostly for edging and tapering around flower beds for mowing. Works great! The grass shield is designed in such a way I can see the where the string is hitting while I'm edging (a much better design than my last one). I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC LINE FEED! It keeps the string to within about ?" from the cutter. I've used it to knock down some bigger weeds but don't feel it would have the power needed to clear an overgrown weed infested lot.

Last the blower - this seems the least refined of the group. At 120 MPH (? Advertised) it is as billed a hard surface sweeper. With a fresh battery it might blow debris from between the expansion joints in a concrete driveway, but not if it's been in there for a while. It does an adequate job blowing the grass trimmings off of the driveway and sidewalks. It uses batteries faster than either of the other tools.

As for battery life. I haven't found it to be a problem. I always take an extra battery when I start and those 2 have been enough to finish the job so far. Part of the reason I chose the Black and Decker line over other cordless units was that I have a good set of FireStorm series hand tools and they use the same batteries. Replacement batteries can be found at Home Depot for about $39 each. I haven't needed to replace a battery so far (I've owned the hand tools for a little over a year).

Results of ownership have been a better looking yard.

This is because before I had the cordless units it was such a hassle to either get the gas units to run or, stretch the 100' extension cord out, keep the extension cord of the way when cutting. And of course coil it back up for storage.

So with the ease of use of the cordless units I'm edging and trimming twice a month instead of twice or 3 times a year.

Highly recommended, very light weight, easy to use, more powerful than expected, well designed, reasonably priced and a 2 year homeowner warranty.

Thank you Black and Decker.

*** Update 12/1/2009 ***

Well after a summers use I can say these tools are great!! The batteries are holding up well, with no noticeable degradation of capacity.

The string trimmer is wonderful. I bought 3 extra spools and some extra cutting line to refill them. I HAVE YET TO USE THE 1st SPOOL OF LINE. The autofeed mechanism works flawlessly. Plenty of power and because of the light weight very easy to use.

The hedge trimmer has exceeded my expectations.

While the hard surface blower still seems to be the weak link to me.

After reading the reviews on the Worx competitor (which steered me away from them), I'm delighted I decided on the Black and Decker tools.

Customer Review: Best little threesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Snap 123 to assemble
pop in battery and away you go
Very light weight, easy, quick and all 3 work great
3 port battery charger is terrific -- everything in one place and holders for equipment keeps everthing together and not here or there so easy to keep track of.

Would highly recommend especially for the mature active group of individuals who still like to do yard work.

Customer Review: Five Star Father's Day Gift
Summary: 5 Stars

Shopping for my Dad is never easy but this set of cordless tools was a big hit on Father's Day. He LOVES IT!!! These tools are so lightweight and easy to use that he may never use his old gas powered or electric tools again. Best of all, his yard has never looked better and was voted recently as the best yard in the neighborhood, a first time honor for my Dad and he's lived in the neighborhood for 40 years.

Customer Review: MY DAD LOVES THESE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my dad for Father's day and he loves them! They are so easy to use, my mom enjoys using it as well. The batteries don't last too long, but it comes with three and he just grabs another when it begins to go. He has used electric and gas and said he will never go back! I would recomend these to anyone who dreads edging, blowing, or trimming.... it makes it so fast and easy and looks like a professional was hired when it is all said and done. This combo pack is the best deal!!

Customer Review: good, but not enough battery life
Summary: 3 Stars

Tools work well, but batteries run down too quick. I know it's a tough engineering problem to keep the tools lightweight yet with sufficient power, so I don't mind it too much for what I paid. I hate using gas tools and feel there's a social responsibility with them - lawn maintenance machines are one of the leading causes of air pollution in urban areas in the U.S. But with this set, I use up the better part of two batteries just doing edging/trimming on a 1/4 acre lot, then wear out the third with the blower. If I also want to trim hedges, I have to recharge and do it on a different day.
