Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage IronCustomer Review: The best iron I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this iron for about a month now. I use it daily. It is the next generation of the iron I had before. Of course, I use the burst of steam a lot (one reason I chose it), and I like the temperature readout very much. I like that it lets me know when it is ready with a little beep. I absolutely need the automatic shutoff. I like the translucent water tank which makes it easy at a glance to know when more water is needed. But the big difference with this iron is that the steam and temperature are set separately, and that is a big plus. I can choose just how much steam I want to use on any fabric. The iron is not too heavy and not too light, handles easily. My last iron had its cord break because the ball that allows the cord to move didn't work all that well. This iron has the same set up with the cord, but so far, it seems to swivel just fine. This is truly the best iron I have owned. I expect it to last at least the 10 years that my last one did. I highly recommend this iron.
Customer Review: Beats the competition hands down Summary: 5 Stars
I had recently purchased a Pressa Bella iron touted as the best on a TV infomercial. It's main selling point was being able to output "dry steam" sufficient to iron clothes without even laying the iron upon them. Well, the dry steam feature spit water in large quantities, was difficult to fill, & had a tiny water capacity. Otherwise the iron was heavy, did not shut off automatically as claimed, and did not provide any advantages over old fashioned, non automatic ironsBlack & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron.
The Black and Decker 2030 has none of these drawbacks and actually outputs a prodigious amount of steam whenever the extra steam button is pushed. Besides that, it is extremely well designed, provides a wonderfully useful digital readout for different heat levels for different types of clothes. All in all, it is a intelligently engineered product for normal home use.
Customer Review: I will buy Black & Decker iron D2030 again and again Summary: 5 Stars
I am life long user of Rowenta irons.
Those irons had their share of problems but there were nothing better available. When my last Rowenta stopped heating, I searched for best available again and was surprised to find the excellent ratings this B&D model D2030 received. It was way cheaper than Rowenta model I had. So, I purchased it and have been using it for about 3 weeks. It is the best iron I ever had. After ironing, my clothes, especially cottons, look like they just came back from Drycleaners. It works so well, it is taking 30% to 40% less time than it used to take with my previous iron.
The only issue I have is the manufacturer's recommendation of not using water processed through water softening systems. I have such a system. So, cnce a month I have to get water from my neighbours that don't use water softeners.
Some of the reviewers had concern about the lid for the water tank breaking off. It is a valid concern. Just be gently when you open it.
Customer Review: Lots of power Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the iron only a day, so these are first impressions - but wow!
I hate to iron, but love ironed clothes, so I wind up standing over my ironing board much more than I'd like.
My last iron was a fairly expensive Shark model. It died a couple times and was sent out for replacement. It also had pretty weak steam and heat for a 1700 watt iron.
The Black & Decker blows the Shark away. At 1500 watts, you get tons of steam and lots of reliable heat. I thought the digital aspect would be mostly a gimmick, but it is handy in that it lets you know the status of the iron without guesswork (whether its on or off, fully heated up and ready, temp setting and other readings).
Bottom line - I got my ironing done more quickly, and my clothes looked crisper. Lot's of steam and lots of heat. What more could you want?
Oh yeah, it needs to be reliable. I suppose time will tell on that question.
Customer Review: Better Than Rowenta! Summary: 5 Stars
I never thought I would consider any other iron than Rowenta. I have owned four, but therein lies the problem. They worked great for awhile, then the thermostats would whack out or they'd splutter, etc. I sent them back several times to the repair center in Illinois, and they sometimes would come back and work for awhile, or not. Feeling I had spent enough on repairs to instead purchase a new iron, I checked out all the reviews and decided upon the Black & Decker. I love it!
It holds more water than the Rowentas, and gives me exactly the heat I need. It remains to be seen how durable it is. I use my iron a lot almost every day as I do clothing design and alterations. Even though it shuts off when not in use for more than ten minutes, it heats up again quickly.
The maintenance cleaning reminder is handy, although the procedure is a bit time-consuming. It's worth it to know I will get the best performance for my iron all the time.
