Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker D6000 All-Temp Steam Iron with Stainless-Steel SoleplateCustomer Review: Great Iron BUT Stopped Working after 3 months? Summary: 2 Stars
Great iron (Black & Decker D6000), sturdy, professional look on mens dress shirts, great steam power. I have purchased previous models of Black and Decker Steam Iron, which have turned out to be a great investment. They usually stop working after about 2 years, however this most recent purchase the iron started to give me problems with power after the first month, one day it wouldn't power on, it came back on the following day. Now after owning it for a brief 3 months, the iron will not power on and it's been about 3 weeks. It's never been dropped and isn't used often. Very disappointing!
Customer Review: Great but broke after 5 months! Summary: 2 Stars
The D600 is without a doubt the best and most effective iron I have ever owned--far superior to the Rowena I had. It worked so well that I rarely used the steam button, it heated up quickly, rarely leaked, and ironed like a dream. However, after 5 months it simply stopped working. I replaced it with a cheaper Black & Decker but already regret it as it's just not as good. However, given the price of the D6000, it should have had a much longer life!
Customer Review: Leaky, leaky, leaky Summary: 2 Stars
I was replacing an old Black and Decker and got this all-temp steam digital iron. It leaked all over my ironing board the very first time I used it - leaky right out of the box. Just sitting on my ironing board there was a puddle of water.
I returned it and got a Rowenta and am very glad I did. The Rowenta does a much, much better job and was definitely worth the extra money.
Customer Review: suddenly died after 11 months Summary: 2 Stars
This iron has some nice features, but the cord is too short, and adding water is little tricky. The iron died after 11 months, luckily it's still under warranty.
Customer Review: Good Design, Poor Quality Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this iron as a replacement for my D5500, which I finally dropped one too many times. I have never had a better iron at any price point than the D5500 - the ease of use, performance, and durability were great. That being said, I had high hopes for "upgrading" to the D6000.
The button placement is slightly different, but the actual design is quite easy to use. I don't find that I'm hitting buttons by accident at all, as some of the other reviews say. The cord design *seems* smart, and this iron is more stable when sitting upright than the D5500 (which hopefully means I won't be knocking it off the ironing board). The only design flaw I see is that it really is quite heavy for a contemporary iron. Not an issue for me since I'm usually only ironing one or two garments, but if you iron a number of items at a time or have low hand/wrist strength, I imagine it would be a major barrier.
The big problem isn't design but quality. I ignored the reviewers here who were said they got bad units, and that was a bad move on my part. Out of the box, it seemed to have a few white mineral deposits (I probably should have run a clean cycle first, but still). I was somewhat concerned that it didn't seem to get nearly as hot as the D5500 at the same setting (I'd estimate half as hot or less). But the last straw is that there appears to be an electrical flaw that makes it turn off (and on!) randomly. I have contacted the manufacturer as instructed. I'll change this review if my replacement unit is better, but right now I'm wishing I'd stuck with what I knew.
Update: I contacted the manufacturer as the instructions said, and after a week of emails back and forth they agreed to replace it under warranty (I've had it only a few days), but require me to ship to them at my expense, then a processing fee that amounts to over 20% of the unit's purchase price, and a matter of weeks to send out another unit, so I'm returning to Amazon for a refund. Very disappointing experience with the product and the manufacturer. Amazon and the seller were great!
