Customer Review: Excellent Yard Tool For Small Projects

I read all the reviews before buying this tool. I gotta say, they made it hard. I was worried that I would be wasting my money, but after extracting a promise from the people at Lowe's that I could return it if I wasn't happy with it, I took this bad boy home.
Today was the first time I have used it. I was planting a bunch of bulbs and bareroots and only needed small holes to put them in. It tore through the thick grass without hesitation and loosened the soil so that planting was a breeze. I also dug a small furrow, just to see if I could. Easy as pie.
The only bad thing about this tool, as mentioned by many others, is the battery life. At Lowe's they told me it would go for something like 4 hours. Please... I knew that was never going to happen. You will probably get 15-30 minutes per charge if you're working in an area with established lawn. Of course, if you've bought this tool, you probably have other B&D 18v tools, so just make sure to charge a bunch of batteries up the night before you use it.
Check your blades regularly for impaction, but I found that generally, the best way to work this tool is to make several passes, just like you would with a tiller. It is essentially a very small, hand-held tiller. I'm thinking about selling my very big, hard-to-manage-with-my-MS tiller now that I have this tool. It is *NOT* a replacement for a tiller or tractor, but if you're working in beds instead of rows, it will do the trick, given enough patience.
I recommend this tool highly for anyone, but especially for those of us who are physically limited and still want to keep our gardens looking nice. It weighs about the same as a sack of potatoes and creates minimal jarring. It caused me no fatigue and very little pain from operating it, though obviously you will have to get up and down to plant. A simple rocking motion makes it more effective at digging in compacted soils.
I can't think of anything else to say about it, but I would buy this tool over and over again. It is so great, I can't say. :)
