Description of Black & Decker GH610 Grass Hog 14-Inch 5.5 amp Electric String Trimmer and EdgerEvery home lawn enthusiast needs a reliable trimmer. When it comes to performance in the front or back yard, the Grass Hog 14-inch automatic feed string trimmer and edger provides what you need. This tool is powered by a 4.8 Amp electric motor that spins the line at 9,500 rpm and gives you a 14-inch cutting swath. An Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system eliminates the need to bump the trimmer against the ground every time the line breaks. And the 30-foot, factory-wound spool is easy to install and replace. Head adjustment is quick and easy, too, when the Groom'N'Edge head rotates 180 degrees; just press the button, rotate the handle and wait for it to lock in place. The patented cord retention system helps prevent accidental unplugging while in use. This trimmer comes equipped with an auxiliary handle for added comfort and control. The handle rotates a full 360 degrees and the soft grip can be moved up and down to ensure the perfect fit, whatever size the operator may be. A flip-down edge guide ensures precise trimming and edging work. At just 5.2 pounds, this product is easy for just about anyone to use. This product is backed by a 2-year full warranty. --Carl Thress A broad 14-inch cutting swath and a powerful five Amp electric motor help the Black & Decker Grass Hog GH600 Electric String Trimmer and Edger make edging, trimming, and weed eating easy tasks to handle. Corded power means work is never brought to a standstill by a dead battery or an empty gas tank, and a patented cord-lock system prevents accidental extension cord disconnections while you work. This tool is backed by a limited 2-year warranty.
Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker GH610 Grass Hog 14-Inch 5.5 amp Electric String Trimmer and EdgerCustomer Review: Holy Free Holy!!! This thing is Powerful!!! Summary: 5 Stars
People said this trimmer is powerful, and they aren't kidding! I bought a gas powered Weedeater which turned out to be a piece of junk. I could NOT get it started right out of the box. And yes, I DID read the instructions, multiple times. After multiple tries, I gave up and decided to get an electric one for the simplicity factor. I was not expecting it to be this powerful since it is electric, but I decided I just couldn't live with all the fuss and aggravation of a gas model...all that oil and gas mixing, plus I am a petite person, and they are just to heavy for me.
I just came in from trying out this new Black and Decker, corded model, and WOW!!! I am impressed! It REALLY acts as a true edger. I goes through tough weeds and soil and makes a nice clean, true edge line, about 1-2 inches wide and deep.
You have to understand that I am new to all this house ownership stuff, and I am only starting to learn about caring for my yard. I hadn't really ever edged properly since I moved in a few years ago, so the edges were very over grown and in places the dirt had piled up, spilled over and built up small mounds of dirt in some places on the concrete. This Black and Decker goes right through the weeds and soil like nothing.
I will say BE CAREFUL!!! Do what the instructions say: Wear long pants and sleeves, wear eye protection, don't let anybody be near you especially children and pets, and also you may want to move your car out of the driveway. I found that the trimmer was slinging rocks and dirt quite hard onto my car window, and since I only this year had to replace my windsheild because it has cracked, I stopped trimming out of concern for my car windown and later I am going to move my car and continue on.
If you need something powerful, that has the ease of being electric over gas, this is it!
Small concerns: Perhaps Black and Decker could redesign the gaurd so that when in the edging mode, it traps more of the flying debri if possible.
I also read in some of the other reviews that people downgraded this model because they feel the automatic line feeds out too quickly and the unit uses too much line. Well, since I don't really have anything to compare it to, I can't say to much about this, but they do give you a generous supply of three total reels with it (one on the unit and two extra), and also the instructions do say that you can bulk load it, so I will just have to see on that, but in my opinion, it is a small problem that can be dealt with, if it becomes necessary.
Right out of the box before I even turned the unit on, I was impressed with Black and Decker over the Weedeater: the extra line, a nice big gaurd (bigger and more sturdy looking than the Weedeater), and the edging wire folds up and out of the way when not in use. That's a nice touch. The Weedeater's wire is just there, in the up position all the time. So all these things make me feel that Black and Decker has given a lot of thought to the small details, so they probably give attention to the big details as well.
Overall, this is a very good purchase, and I will NEVER buy a Weedeater piece of junk again!
