Customer Review: Wow -- Better than I expected

Wow, was all I could think when I took this outside for the first time today.
We have some 8 FT high bushes, some that grow about 7 feet deep, and tons of plants all around this 1/2 acre yard. A year or so ago, we bought one of those Remington Pole hedge trimmers. It broke the first time out and the head wouldn't lock in position. Actually, I think it was broken before I opened the box. Despite that, I used it a few times, and it was such a hassle, dragging the cord around, and, though it is about the same weight as this one, it just felt heavier. I think it was the way you can balance this B&D without having to worry about moving the extension cord or where it is so you don't cut it off.
I was worried that it wouldn't do the job, as this one cuts "up to" 7/16, and practically up to 1/3" per other reviews. The Remington does up to 3/4" It did go through some tough branches. However, I took a ruler and marked the three sizes on a card and took it outside to see how the difference would affect me and found that virtually all the branches I am usually interested in cutting are less than 7/16.
I'm a pretty big guy, but I can't trim for more than 30 or 40 minutes, so the battery life was not an issue. I charged the B&D battery for about 4 hours and couldn't wait to try it. It worked at full strength as long as my arms held up.
I think the big advantage to this, assuming I have a charged battery, is that I will be much more likely to go do some trimming, since the additional hassle of getting an extension cord, unravelling it, maybe hooking two together, and throwing it down the hill over and between the trees will not have to be done. I can just grab it and start cutting.
I know without a doubt that I will use this much more than the old corded one, and if the batteries do last 2-3 years, that's OK. I just found replacements, brand new on Amazon, for 30 bucks shipped.
I do wish they had included a LOCK ON feature, but the way the trigger is designed, it would be easy to clamp in place. However, I did switch hands a lot, and it was very easy to turn on, and was probably safer that way.
I had a new Remington unit sitting here, and hemmed and hawed over even trying a battery operated unit, but finally decided that the lack of a cord, the fact that I don't regularly need to trim anything over 7/16", and the overall quality I have always experienced with B&D products, coupled with all the positive reviews here, made it a MUST BUY. Now that I have used it, I have made a MUST KEEP decision!
