Description of Black & Decker ST1000 9-Inch 1.8 amp Electric Grass TrimmerIf you're in the market for a basic, entry-level electric trimmer to handle light trimming work around your house, the Black and Decker 9-inch grass trimmer might be worth considering. While certainly not as powerful or feature-laden as more costly models, this trimmer can handle much of the light-duty work many homeowners need. The trimmer weighs just 3.2 pounds and requires little assembly with just 2 steps. It operates off a reliable, 1.8-amp HP motor, which spins the line at 11,000 rpm. This grass trimmer features a basic bump feed line system, a generous nine-inch cutting path, and a secondary assist handle for added comfort and control. It comes with 20 feet of .065-diameter line, and spool replacement is fairly simple. One thing I found especially handy with this particular trimmer was its unique cord lock system, which holds the extension cord firmly in place while the trimmer is in use. As someone who has accidentally unplugged a trimmer halfway through a job on more than one occasion, this indeed a handy feature to have. This product is backed by a 2-year full warranty. --Carl Thress If you're in the market for a basic, entry-level electric trimmer to handle light trimming work around your house, the Black & Decker ST1000 might be worth considering. Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker ST1000 9-Inch 1.8 amp Electric Grass TrimmerCustomer Review: Don't underestimate this little trimmer! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently went shopping for a trimmer and was taken aback by how expensive they are at the discount and home improvement stores. So, I checked on-line stores and decided to give this little trimmer a try. At less than $20 on Amazon, I figured I couldn't go wrong. After all it is just a small, electric trimmer, just what I was looking for.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the ability of this trimmer. The handle length is not adjustable, but it is long enough that I stand up straight when using it (I am 5'11"). The light weight makes it easy to use with one hand. The bounce feed works fairly well, but I have found it easier to just turn the trimmer over, press the feed button with my thumb and pull out a little line when needed. I like the built in extension cord lock, it keeps the cord from coming unplugged; I don't understand how some reviewers are having their cord come unplugged. Maybe they are using those thin, flat, underrated extension cords that are not meant to be used with power tools anyway. I use a round cord designed for outdoor use and the cord lock holds it fine. The small motor does not bog down like I thought it would when cutting through reasonably thick stuff, and it does not damage wooden borders like my previous powerful trimmer did. It does an excellent job of trimming around the house foundation and along my fence. I just put it through the ultimate test by trimming the overgrown weeds from my alley. They were thick and over two feet tall, but this trimmer easily mowed them down. I just used a swinging motion and the trimmer made a quick and easy job of it, much easier than if I had tried to force my mower through the overgrowth! I think the included 20 feet of cutting line will last me through the summer.
The only downside is that the pre-wound spools are expensive. For about the same price I will buy a bulk package of the .065 line and wind my own. The bulk line is available on Amazon in 200 and 300 foot lengths.
I can highly recommend this inexpensive little trimmer; unless you have a very large area to trim.
